Regulated Electricity Tariffs in France: Conditional Approval of the State Aid Elements by the European Commission

The European Commission has announced on 12 June 2012 that it has approved certain elements of the regulated electricity tariffs in France which entailed state aids elements. Others are subject to conditions.

The regime examined by the European Commission concerns France's system of regulated electricity tariffs for large and medium-sized energy consumers.

The conditions for approval of the state aid elements relate to:

  • the reform of the French electricity market
  • an annual review of the standard tariffs
  • elimination of the standard regulated tariffs by 2015.
